Brazz Bar in Taunton has swiftly earned itself a loyal fan base since its refurbishment in 2017, winning a Taste of the West Award for Best Bar the same year. And this is in no small part due to their energetic and knowledgeable head barman, Yanni.
Originally from Romania, Yanni joined Brazz during its relaunch and has transformed their cocktail menu into a formidable offering from their feisty Mexican Fizz to the namesake Brazz-cow Mule, each drink is well thought out, perfectly balanced and utterly delicious. And he believes there is a cocktail suitable for any occasion. If you’re ever in doubt, just ask – he is happy to share his knowledge.
Yanni’s top tips for cocktails, during and after dinner.
“I think cocktails before dinner are a great start to your evening, especially Champagne cocktails. Nothing beats the beautiful presentation and look of a waiter serving a tray of Champagne cocktails – pure style,” says Yanni.
“Cocktails are even appropriate with food. If you want something to drink with your dinner, Negroni is perfect – made with gin, Campari and vermouth – it compliments lots of flavours. And for after eights, I would recommend a Vanilla Espresso Martini as an alternative to dessert, coffee or cappuccino. It’s sweet, and something different.”
