Acclaimed chefs and award-winning Cornish producers are among the line up announced for the fourth Rock Oyster Festival, taking place from Friday 21 to Sunday 23 June 2013.
Food writer and The Times columnist Joanna Weinberg will join chef Paul Ainsworth from Michelin starred Number 6, Tom Hunter from The Scarlet Hotel and Rick Stein’s son Jack, in the demonstration theatre.
Early bird tickets are now on sale for the family-friendly event which attracts thousands of visitors who come to enjoy the unique blend of food, music and arts.
Other local chefs on stage are The Seafood Restaurant’s executive chef David Sharland, and head chef Stephane Delourme, James Nathan (Masterchef 2008 winner), Nick Osborne from St Moritz Hotel, Neil Haydock from Watergate Bay Hotel, Tom Scade from Tides Restaurant in nearby Rock and Jamie Porter from Rafferty’s in St Merryn.
Local producers will be giving talks and masterclasses in the Food Surveys’ Food Academy on topics from oysters and meat curing to hand-made pasta and the art of foraging.
Festival goers can take their pick from a smorgasbord of food and drink, with local restaurants running food stalls alongside local producers like Kernow Sausage Company, Rock Shellfish and the Brownie Baker.
Local brewers Skinners and Harbour Brewing Company will feature in the beer tent keeping crowds refreshed throughout the weekend.
This year’s musical highlights include gypsy pirate punk band Seas of Mirth, Smerins Antisocial Club and 14 piece Slamboree, who blend drum and base with circus cabaret. Sunday has more of a folky sound with acts like Half Sisters, who appeared at 2012 Port Eliot Festival.
The festival also has a designated children’s area where little ones can indulge in bush craft, enjoy circus acts, dance to disco and learn how to scavenge on the seashore. There is also a dedicated tent for baby changing and breast feeding.
A limited number of 400 weekend early bird tickets are now on sale priced at £45 for an adult and £10 for children. For more information and to purchase tickets visit rockoysterfestival.co.uk
